Sesame, also known as "Indian sesame", is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Pedaliaceae family. It is distinguished by its white or pink flowers and green leaves, as well as its small seeds that are usually white, black or brown in color. Sesame seeds are considered one of the oldest known oil crops and are widely used in cooking, particularly in Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine, to add a distinctive flavor and texture to dishes and desserts.
